Man found dead in gym with 56-kg barbell on throat

A man died at a gym in Vietnam Tuesday, apparently after the 56-kg (123 pounds) barbell he was lifting fell on his throat while he was performing a bench press.
Two other bodybuilders found Nguyen Gia Khanh lying unconscious on the bench with the barbell on throat in a corner of Thanh Nien Bodybuilding Club in Binh Duong Province.
They removed the weight and attempted to give Khanh CPR but in vain.
Khanh, 34, was rushed to Binh Duong General Hospital, where doctors concluded he had died before reaching there.
According to the police, Khanh started to work out at the gym a year ago.
On Tuesday he arrived at the gym at 5.15 a.m. for a routine workout.
The two other bodybuilders said they did not known when the accident happened because Khanh was at a far corner.
An autopsy has been administered to decide the cause of Khanh’s death.
Bodybuilding is one of popular sports in Binh Duong. The provincial team won two gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the National Games in Nam Dinh Province last December.
